Having come to this blog via Zen Habits, I confess I was stunned by your story about firing your Father, him dying alone without your nurture and presence. She's cheating on a piece of shit. Always getting into trouble, needing to borrow money, until they became adults and their problems became adult-sized. Me and the boy are fine these days which makes me very happy but the daughter and I, quite frankly, I think are quite relieved. Thank goodness, as you point out, that we can supplement those relationships with others.
