The major hotels in Old-Montreal

Montreal is one of the main touristic spots in Canada. With its powerful cultural life and its historic background, it attracts hundreds of thousands of international tourists each year. Amongst the main neighborhoods in Montreal, the Old Montreal is very interesting because of its european architecture, its museums and the festivals that take place nearby.

Today, we won’t be talking about events or attractions: people write about this all the time and you’ll easily find some information on the web. We’re rather interested in covering the major hotels that are situated in Old-Montreal: after all, you’re gonna need a place to sleep during your trip!

The Saint-Paul

This Old-Montreal Hotel was the first in Canada to be named « Design Hotel » by the UNESCO. It also received a sweet distinction by being elected one of the Top 25 trendiest canadian hotels by the users of the famous travel website Trip Advisor. It is built on St-Paul street and it is known to be expensive and beautiful. It’s a little spot of luxury amongst the major and cheaper chains that are located in the city.

The Hotel Champ-de-Mars

This establishment is situated on Berri Street. In opposition to the previous Hotel Saint-Paul, hotel champ de mars is quite unexpensive: you can currently book a room for as little as 53$ (everything included) by using Google Hotel Booker. It is an affordable place that will not make your night memorable; it will still be appreciated by travelers working on a tight budget.

  • People have access to a gym and a breakfast.
  • The breakfast is not a cheap continental meal made out of a muffin and a slice of bread: it is a full, copious American breakfast.
  • It is located near the Old Port, making it quite close to the most important Montreal attractions there is.

  • The website is not exactly attractive.
  • The service is said to be « ok » and the rooms « small » by some users.

The Hilton Montreal Bonaventure

This hotel chain is known across the world for being held by the famous Hilton family, mostly known for its daughter Paris. Travelers looking for a safe choice will often opt for these hotels since they apply international standards of quality. There is no particular effort put on design but it is a nice place with rooms available for all kinds of guests. Guest rooms, executives rooms… Hiltons are practical and somewhat expensive.

Con:

  • Back in 2012, there was a flagrant lack of service for the handicapped people.
