Don’t forget to secure your gazebo!

People often forget that a gazebo is a pretty light structure.  It is fabricated in a way that consumers can easily install or deinstall it at the end of the summer, without having to hire three movers in order to do the job properly! This light structure comes at a price, though: it can easily be thrown away by strong wind.

After reading our article on choosing the right gazebo, you know that some products have a better conceived than others: when a blowhole is installed on top of the canopy, for example, it will let wind flow out (instead of trying to resist against it) and it will become very hard to kick it down. However, if no blowhole is included in the canopy structure, you will have to find another way to fix this.

In this quick article, Neotango decided to offer a complement of information to its readers by helping them understand how to secure that pesky gazebo.

Securing the gazebo to a deck

That’s what most people are going to do because it is simple to do. You will have to “drill” some holes in the legs of the gazebo, and use 1.5 inches galvanized lag bolts with washers. Use these bolts to secure the installation in the deck and it should do the work perfectly! At least, that’s what Quick-lude, from Mississauga, gave as a tip.

The DIY solution

If you are unable to secure it to the ground, there are some ways to add weight to the base of the structure in order to make it harder to move. What someone suggested was that you could put the 4 “legs” of the gazebo into high flower pots and poured bags of sang at the bottom of the pot, adding a few hundred pounds of weight to the whole thing. To make it look better, you can easily add soil to the top of the pot and plant some flowers on it!
